I have not been keeping up with new followers lately. At all. I just added some people that I would have followed back earlier if I had noticed them (hi!) because I have a problem and I don’t think 259 is a good enough place to stop. One day I will actually go through and add people back, but I can’t promise it will be soon since I’m already following the population of my high school. (Yes, I went to a tiny parochial school. What about it?) But if I’m missing parts of the larger Tumblr convo because I’m following all your friends but not you, please give a shout. those of you who don’t know the situation at work won’t understand why this is so exciting. at some point, perhaps i will make a nice long post about it all. but not right now. today is a day of celebration:

by the end of next week, i will have a desk. each of my coworkers will also have their own desk. a full size, with drawers, desk. maybe even with a lamp.

they’ve already hooked up our phones (our desks will have phones on them!) and said the desks should be in before we leave for christmas.

huzzah!

Jenna has a job in London. I have a job with a desk. I’m not sure which of us came out on top there, but once Jenna gets a desk it will definitely be her.

i didn’t have a lot of male friends growing up, and most of my male friends are gay. my life followed the “when harry met sally” rule of male and female friendships…that most men weren’t actively pursuing friendship or reciprocating friendship with me unless they wanted to date me/have sex with me/etc. because most of my male friends weren’t the types to call me up to hang out on the weekends randomly, i took the hint: empirically, straight men were not interested in me. they were interested in my hotter, thinner friends, sure, but not in me. they wanted to borrow my notes from class, but not write notes to me. so now, as a full grown adult, the whole straight-guys-as-friends thing is confounding.

ergo, i hate this.

i hate it when i have a male friend who is straight and single and always super sweet and nice to me because i can’t tell if he’s just (a) being really sweet or (b) flirting with me. i can never tell which is which.

of course, it doesn’t help matters when he is super adorably cute and smart and has a great smile and a great personality and YUUUUUUUUUCK. he also noticed that i lost weight.

shut up pegster. he’s just being nice. truly! if he was really flirting with me…if he was really going after me…he would just do it. he’d have no reason not to. he knows i’m single. he knows i’m not seeing anyone. i’m a fairly transparent person about that kind of stuff.

So I finished season one of Veronica Mars last night and I can’t stop thinking about it. I seriously need Logan and Veronica to get back together. They might be my favourite couple of all time. I cannot explain why really, but it’s very important to me. As in, if they don’t get back together, I will run away, change my name to Skygirl, and join a cult that makes belts out of dandelion stems and only drinks soup.

This is serious bidness.

I spoiler-ed myself for the rest of their relationship because I feel much the same way.

I am at a coffee shop right now. And a strange man keeps talking to me and instructing me on things. First on where I can charge my computer and then on how my adapter cord is disappointingly not long enough and then there was something about my coat. I don’t even know if I am allowed to be on this couch. I want something to drink but everything is on giant chalkboards I can’t understand all the weird charts and conquering the counter seems an insurmountable obstacle.

It is mostly the social and eating establishments that get me. I feel like there’s an expected code of conduct and behavior that everyone else is already privy to and they’re waiting for you to screw it up. There are so many rules.

This borough makes me nervous.

I’m so thirsty.

Should I curtsy? Should I make eye contact? Are the natives friendly? I wonder if they even accept normal American dollars in the mysterious kingdom of Brooklyn. Their ritual dress is so unique! Their mode of speech so distinctive!

This entry made my whole day. Kudos.

The problem with packing my lunch is that 99% of the time, I will eat it for breakfast.
